Chicagoland Vampire Series: Twice Bitten

Twice Bitten is the third book in the Chicagoland Vampire Series by Chloe Neill. So far in the books, Merit, a local graduate student and real estate moguls daughter, was attacked by a rogue vampire who was scared away by the vampire who decided her live was worth saving, Ethan, Master of the Cadogan House. She has to choose whether to pledge her servitude to the Cadogan House or go on her own. She chooses to serve Cadogen. Merit and Ethan have a sexual tension that is very hard to ignore.
After a Master vampire tries her best to kill Merit, she challenges Ethan to a dual. Ethan punishes her by making her Sentinel (protector) of the Cadogen house as well as the Social Liason with the other 3 houses in Chicago. That is a VERY brief summary of the first two books.

Now, for Twice Bitten, the sexual tension is still there and stronger than ever. Merit has mastered the katanas and is now working on using her newly developed vampire senses in sparring with her partner, Ethan.

Ethan and Merit are establishing a relationship with the Shifters, hoping they will stay and fight with them instead of running to Alaska when the shit gets tough. They play nice with Gabriel, Apex of the Shifters, and gain his trust and are invited to a meeting with the 4 Alphas, where drama unfolds.

With the excitement at the Alpha’s meeting, Ethan can no longer resist. He, once again, makes his moves on Merit. This time she can’t refuse. They proceed to have one of the steamiest sex scenes ever. Then they go to another Shifter function, just a get-together for the local Pride, where a not-so-friendly shifter grabs Merit and manhandles her. Ethan reacts very protectively and almost costs them the alliance they are trying to build with the shifters. He then decides he cares too much for Merit and pursuing a relationship with her will not benefit the house, so he calls it off citing it’s for the greater good.

At the meeting of the four Prides, Merit and Ethan save Gabriel’s life and fight to protect him. They win the respect of some Pride members. But Gabriel’s brother wants more for the Pride and tries to set Merit up. While Merit is with Gabriel dealing with his brother, the house is attacked (set up by Adam, Gabriel’s brother). Gabriel and Merit ride his motorcycle back to the house and start fighting. Ethan won’t answer Merit’s silent call and she is worried. After a few minutes, she hears “Merit?” in her head. She finds Ethan and they fight together, and boy do they fight. You know what comes after a good fight, a good make up! I can’t wait for the fourth book in this series so that I can read all about it. I can’t find any proof there will be a fourth book as Chloe Neill’s website is wacky right now, but there has to be one coming!

I am going to start the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost tonight with book 1 Halfway To The Grave. That review will be next.
